The Foundling Museum was thrilled to hear that we have received funding thanks to the government’s Culture Recovery Fund so that we can continue to be here for you and #HereForCulture.

The Foundling Museum has received a grant from National Lottery to support and help address the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on heritage. The funding will support the Museum’s core operational costs, a digital upgrade, and new activities designed to attract both local and diverse audiences.

The Foundling Museum is one of 18 organisations to receive a grant from Art Fund in the first round of their Respond and Reimagine grants.

The Foundling Museum has been gifted, through Art Fund, a portrait by the celebrated eighteenth-century artist from the Northern Netherlands, Mattheus Verheyden (1700-1776), the first known work of his to enter a UK public collection.

A rare medal belonging to William South, a former pupil of the London Foundling Hospital, who served on HMS Victory under Admiral Nelson, has been acquired by the Founding Museum.

The Foundling Museum is honoured to announce that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has become its Patron. This patronage recognises the Museum’s unique work to transform the wellbeing and life chances of vulnerable children and young adults through creative collaboration with artists. Drawing on its landmark history, the Museum improves the skills, confidence and joy in life of young people at society’s margins.

We are pleased to announce the Museum has acquired the first major portrait of a key female supporter of the 18th-century Foundling Hospital.

The first painted portrait of Dame Jacqueline Wilson was unveiled here today at the Museum.
